Keith & I were Foundation Members of the Whyalla
Greyhound Racing Club, and I
went to have a look at a litter and fell in love
with a beautiful Black & White girl. I named her Lady Shirkeit, and decided I would
show her until she was old enough to train
for the racetrack.
Sheba was a gem to own, the first time I showed
her she was 10 months old, there were
6 Greyhounds entered and to my delight she won
the Challenge, then Best of Breed & Puppy
in Group.
When it came time for the serious work for the
track Sheba had been too much a pet, living
inside and sleeping on the lounge were much
better than chasing a stuffed bunny. So I decided to keep her as my companion and
show dog.
We moved to Adelaide in 1974, I joined
the Whippet & Greyhound Club, as we were
so close to the show grounds, I would walk over and watch
the Judging.

Sheba enjoyed the show-ring and we started to do
quite a bit of winning, Greyhounds were strong
in the Hound Group and she soon became an
Australian Champion.
Sheba only won the 1 Best in Group, but won many
Class in Group & Show awards.
We bred our first litter of greyhounds in 1975,
and I kept a White & Fawn bitch, Shannon also
did quite well in the show-ring, and at 12
months went to a trainer for her racing lessons.
She won her Maiden race at Gawler, and showed a
lot of promise when she was involved in an
incident on the track and was put down.
Our next litter was in 1976, I kept a Brindle &
White bitch, Simone raced as Spunky Lady, she was only a small girl but she had such
spunk. She was to go on and win 15 races for me,
after her racing days were over I started showing her.
She soon became an Australian Champion and my
most memorable win was in 1981 at the Adelaide Royal when she went Opposite Sex in
Group.
Simone also won Opposite Sex in Show at the
Whippet & Greyhound Club in 1979.
